Borussia Dortmund centre-back Soumaila Coulibaly is on the verge of joining French Ligue 1 side Stade Brest on a loan deal.
Soumaila Coulibaly was keen to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, and he is now set to secure a return to France with a move to Stade Brest. According to Sky Sport, the 20 year old is expected to depart on an initial loan deal. An option to make the signing permanent at the end of the season has not been included.
Borussia Dortmund defender set for Stade Brest loan
Coulibaly joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. But injuries and a high competition for places have meant that he has been limited to just two first-team appearances. He came close to joining Burnley on a permanent transfer last summer, but the proposed move collapsed at the 11th hour.
The France youth international spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp, but the Belgian side decided against signing him permanently.
Several clubs have been linked with a move for Coulibaly in recent months. But now, the highly rated defender is set to join Stade Brest, who will be playing in the UEFA Champions League this season. After finishing third in Ligue 1 last season, Brest qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Soumaila Coulibaly will hope that his move to Stade Brest will allow him to play regular first-team football and continue his development. If the move goes through, Coulibaly would become the third player to leave BVB this week, following the departures of Youssoufa Moukoko (OGC Nice) and Salih Özcan (VfL Wolfsburg).
