Borussia Dortmund internationals: Gio Reyna gets two assists for USMNT; Julien Duranville makes Belgium U-21s debut
Gio Reyna starred for the United States as they progressed to the Concacaf Nations League final after claiming a dramatic 3-1 win over Jamaica.
It has been a difficult season so far for Gio Reyna, who has found playing time hard to come by at club level. But the Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, issued a reminder of his quality on Thursday evening by registering two assists for the United States in their Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Jamaica.
The USMNT needed an own goal from Cory Burke in the 96th minute to take the game to extra time after Greg Leigh had given Jamaica the early lead. Reyna came off the bench in the 46th minute, and helped his side take the lead in extra time by picking out Haji Wright with a delightful through ball while under pressure from multiple defenders.
The 21 year old then set up Wright again in the 109th minute, as the United States booked their spot in the Concacaf Nations League final, where they will face Mexico.
Julien Duranville made his Belgium U-21s debut as he came off the bench and helped them beat Malta 3-1 win the UEFA European U-21 Championship qualifiers. The 17 year old came on in the 63rd minute and helped his side earn three vital points.
Ian Maatsen was also in action on Thursday, but could not prevent the Netherlands U-21s from suffering a 2-1 defeat to Norway in a friendly match. The on-loan Borussia Dortmund left-back came on in the 46th minute.
