Jadon Sancho marked his Bundesliga return with an assist as Borussia Dortmund claimed a hard-fought 3-0 win over 18th placed Darmstadt to kick-start 2024.

It wasn't always pretty, but Borussia Dortmund managed to get the job done as they avoided an upset against Darmstadt and showed why they are very much in contention for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.

Julian Brandt opened the scoring for the Black and Yellows, before Marco Reus, and Youssoufa Moukoko made sure of the three points with goals off the bench. Jadon Sancho also made his return to Borussia Dortmund, and he celebrated his first appearance in 140 days with an assist.

The performance showed that Edin Terzic's side still have plenty of room for improvement, even though they showed great efficiency in front of goal in the second-half. Here are our player ratings from Borussia Dortmund's 3-0 win over Darmstadt.

Gregor Kobel (7/10)

Kobel made a fantastic save in the second-half to prevent Darmstadt from equalising, before goals from Reus and Moukoko helped BVB seal the win. He wasn't tested much other than that, but it was still a well-earned first away clean sheet of the season in the Bundesliga for the Swiss shot-stopper.
