Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 3-2 defeat to Hoffenheim
By Tushar Bahl
Julian Ryerson (5/10)
The normally assured Ryerson delivered a rather tired and labored performance at right-back. He started well, but the errors started to creep in as the game went on.
Nico Schlotterbeck (4/10)
Despite his goal, Schlotterbeck had a game to forget at centre-back. His positioning and body shape while collecting Can's pass before Hoffenheim's opener was completely wrong. He also inadvertedly deflected Beier's first goal into his own net, before being caught out of position in the lead-up to the winning goal. While he did make some decent recoveries, a lot of his errors in defence were glaring and cost the team heavily.
Emre Can (3/10)
Already under pressure going into the game, Can had a nightmarish 90 minutes against Hoffenheim. His poor pass resulted in Hoffenheim's opener, and he didn't cover himself in glory in the lead-up to the other two goals either. To make matters worse for the BVB captain, he missed a golden chance late on to equalise.
Ian Maatsen (5/10)
Maatsen had another rough game at left-back and found it difficult to get going. He was often too slow in defence and did not really offer much going forward. Although one could argue that he is being asked to do too much due to the lack of midfield structure in the team at the moment.
