It was not sexy, and certainly not successful as Borussia Dortmund crashed out of the DFB-Pokal after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Stuttgart. Edin Terzic's side delivered a predictably timid performance as they were outplayed by a wasteful Stuttgart side that didn't even need to get out of second gear.

Borussia Dortmund never looked like winning the game, even though Stuttgart missed chance after chance to keep them in the contest. Ultimately, Serhou Guirassy and Silas scored to put the Black and Yellows out of their misery and send them packing from the DFB-Pokal.

Much like against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, Terzic opted for a defensive-minded approach. The result of it was more excruciating football and a serious lack of attacking intent, as Stuttgart controlled the pace and Borussia Dortmund were left chasing the ball for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Here are our player ratings from Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 defeat to Stuttgart

Gregor Kobel (7/10)

Kobel did his best to keep Borussia Dortmund in the game. He made a number of crucial saves either side of half-time, but was powerless in the end as Stuttgart managed to find a way past him.
