Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid
Borussia Dortmund were handed a 2-1 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal, but a spirited second-half performance gave them a lifeline ahead of the second leg.
It was a tale of two halves as Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid squared off at the Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Black and Yellows tasted a 2-1 defeat, but it could have been a whole lot worse after Atletico's blistering start.
Sebastien Haller came up with Borussia Dortmund's response after goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino had given Diego Simeone's side a two-goal lead in the first-half. And BVB nearly found a late equaliser, but Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julian Brandt were both denied by the woodwork.
Edin Terzic will take plenty of encouragement from his side's second-half performance. But the first-half also showed the inadequacy of this Borussia Dortmund side, as Atletico Madrid were a step ahead in every department.

Kobel had a couple of bad lapses and made poor decisions in possession, especially before Atletico Madrid's opening goal. But he also came up with a number of key saves for his side, espeically in the second-half to prevent Lino from making it 3-0.
