Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid
Jadon Sancho (7/10)
Sancho was Borussia Dortmund's best player in the first-half, showing glimpses of his quality while drifting in from the wing. He continued to impress early in the second-half, and set the tone for BVB's fightback with his quick feet and dribbling.
Karim Adeyemi (5/10)
Adeyemi wasn't able to build on his strong recent performances, as Atletico had the measure of him. Atletico packed their defence and marked him tight to make sure he wasn't able to break away.
Niclas Füllkrug (4/10)
Füllkrug was starved of any service in the first-half, but did show some decent hold-up play by setting up Julian Brandt for a chance after the break. Other than that, it was a game to forget for the German international, who wasn't able to assert himself against the Atletico defence.
Julian Brandt (7/10)
Brandt was dropped in favour of Nmecha, only to be brought on at half-time. And he made a telling impact on the game, setting up Sebastien Haller before hitting the woodwork with the final touch of the game. He invigorated the BVB attack after coming on and sparked the fightback.
Sebastien Haller (7/10)
Haller's finish for his goal showed was simply sublime, and it showed that he is still more than capable of being Borussia Dortmund's first-choice striker. He looked sharper and was more heavily involved in BVB's attacking play than Füllkrug, and his goal keeps the tie alive heading into the second leg.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Marco Reus, Salih Özcan (N/R)
Bynoe-Gittens caused the tired Atletico defenders all sorts of problems, and also hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box.
