Borussia Dortmund were handed a stark reality check on Sunday evening as they fell to a 5-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

Nuri Sahin suffered his first defeat as Borussia Dortmund head coach on Sunday evening, and it was a humiliating 5-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart. For the fourth time over the last 12 months, the Black and Yellows were outplayed by a Stuttgart side that simply wanted it more. And the result was an abject defeat that will no doubt take the team some time to recover from.

It took Stuttgart just four minutes to take the lead, with Deniz Undav taking full advantage of chaotic Borussia Dortmund defending to open the scoring. Ermedin Demirović, Enzo Millot, and were also on target, before Undav added a fifth late on.

Borussia Dortmund never got into the game. And while Serhou Guirassy scored against his former club to make it 3-1 and give BVB some hope in the second-half, Stuttgart quickly wrestled back control of the game.
