Borussia Dortmund 1-0 PSG: Three takeaways from Champions League semifinal first leg
By Joseph Meyer
Borussia Dortmund have qualified for next season's UEFA Champions League
That’s correct! It was in Borussia Dortmund's own hands this whole time. After the superior performances of German teams across Europe’s top competitions this season, there had been an increasing likelihood that the Bundesliga will be awarded a fifth UEFA Champions League qualification spot.
The “UEFA Club Coefficient,” might be a mathematical mystery to many, but with Borussia Dortmund’s win over PSG in the first leg of their semifinal, they have secured the fifth Champions League place for their league, and themselves.
It is unlikely Borussia Dortmund will catch fourth placed RB Leipzig, but it’s mathematically impossible for sixth placed Eintracht Frankfurt to catch the Black and Yellows. BVB have fifth place in the bag, securing their place in next year's revamped edition of the Champions League.
