Borussia Dortmund reportedly interested in signing Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham
Borussia Dortmund could once again be turning their sights on the English market this summer transfer window as they look to deal with the impending player exodus. Expiring contracts and player sales will leave many areas in need of attention for the coming season.
With the departure of Marco Reus now made official, Dortmund will be focused on bringing in another talent to play in attacking midfield for the coming season. Julian Brandt will surely reprise his role as Dortmund’s main man in the 10 position next season, but with Reus now set or be gone and Gio Reyna looking to be out in the cold, Dortmund will have to reinforce.
Going along with the club’s renewed focus on talented youngsters under Lars Ricken, Sebastian Kehl and Sven Mislintat, reports have begun to circulate that Dortmund may be in for Jobe Bellingham. Concerning the younger brother of former Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, the report states that Jobe could possibly follow in his older brother’s footsteps and make his way to the Westfalenstadion to continue and elevate his development. It certainly worked out well for Jude, who is now one of Real Madrid’s most important players and is set to face Dortmund in the Champions League final this June at Wembley.
As discussed on an episode of Dortmund Dispatch earlier this season, Jobe Bellingham could be a very interesting target for Dortmund to consider for their upcoming rebuild. Bellingham has 7 goals and 1 assist across 45 appearances in the Championship for Sunderland this season, with the player excelling in terms of non-penalty goals (0.17) average pass completion (85.9%) and progressive passes received (4.49) per 90 when he’s compared to similar players across the top 14 leagues over the last year.
The report in question also indicates that Sunderland will be looking to supplement earnings by making a substantial sale this summer, which Bellingham could represent for them. Currently valued at 9 million euros and taking Sunderland’s possible need to sell may see Bellingham available for somewhere between 10 and 15 million euros which would be an affordable investment on Dortmund’s end.
A move for Jobe Bellingham has been reportedly considered more than once, the previous move having been an option while Jude was still at the club. Having yet another Bellingham join Dortmund could do more than merely continue a lineage for the talented midfield duo; it could give Dortmund an interesting option to work with within the framework of their revitalized transfer target strategy.
