Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Füllkrug to consider AC Milan move
Borussia Dortmund’s striker situation looks set for a shake-up as the deal for Serhou Guirassy has been green-lit by the club to proceed after further medical examinations diminished the severity of the injury he picked up in June. The deal, according to reports, is set to be completed by Thursday.
The deal for Guirassy, as we’ve known for some time, was set to send reverberations throughout the striker position at the club, with Sébastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko both having been reportedly listed as players that can leave the club this summer. Thus, the club's plan was seemingly to keep Niclas Füllkrug as competition for the incoming Guirassy.
The club’s plans may not fully come to fruition however as reports are now suggesting that AC Milan are pushing for Füllkrug to join the club, with the Serie A side having “positive contact” with the player’s representatives ROOF. These discussions, as well as the Guirassy situation, have left Füllkrug watching the situation closely per said report.
While the report indicates that Füllkrug is willing to stay and fight for his place, the club doesn't see Füllkrug as “unsellable” and therefore this could change the trajectory of the Dortmund striker’s career. Füllkrug was also linked with Milan last season prior to joining Dortmund late in the transfer window.
The news regarding Füllkrug may also change the future of Moukoko and Haller, with the club still needing depth up front. Despite reports stating the club’s willingness to part ways with Moukoko, the most realistic solution remains that Dortmund end up with three strikers in the squad for the coming season: the German youngster, Guirassy, and Füllkrug. With the change in format to the Champions League and upcoming Club World Cup format next summer, the club will need forth and likely will find ample games for the players in question to participate in.
