As Borussia Dortmund continue their restructuring in terms of players for the upcoming season, there continue to be twists and turns in terms of the players the club is seemingly set to bring in or see leave for pastures new. In the winger department, there’s been quite a bit of talk about the possible departure of Karim Adeyemi in recent weeks.

According to those previous reports, Adeyemi was seen as a player the club would be willing to part ways with if an offer closer to their valuation of 50 million euros came across their desk. The reasoning behind this was the culmination of Adeyemi’s performances not meeting the club’s expectations over the course of his time at the club since signing from RB Salzburg a couple of seasons ago.

The club’s tune has seemingly changed however with head coach Nuri Şahin now keen to keep hold of the German attacker. According to Bild, Şahin sees great potential in Adeyemi and would like to keep him for the coming year. The report indicates that Şahin sees Adeyemi as an important part of Dortmund’s attack from a tactical standpoint this season.

Adeyemi, despite not performing up to standards week in week out over the course of the last season both due to personal and injury related matters, clearly has the talent to be a difference maker for this Borussia Dortmund side. The explosive nature of his runs and his ability to take defenders on only need to reach a more consistent level for us to see this come to fruition.

The same can be said for Donyell Malen, who also went through stints of impeccable to underwhelming form and will also be under the microscope in Şahin’s first season in charge should he end up staying past this summer. While there was ample talk about changes in the winger position this summer, we’ve now come to a point where we may end up with the same players out wide, with the hope that Şahin can help bring the best out of their game for the coming campaign.
