Kerim Alajbegovic had earlier given Bayer Leverkusen the lead in just the fifth minute. After a difficult first-half, Borussia Dortmund responded in the 51st minute with Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta showing excellent footwork before firing his shot past the Leverkusen goalkeeper.

Leverkusen thought they had clinched the title in the 91st minute, when Jeremiah Mensah found the bottom corner with an excellent finish from the edge of the box. But the BVB U-17s responded again and equalised in the seventh minute of added time through Diego Ngambia, who scored from the penalty spot.

And so we went to extra time, where the game continued at a very high intensity. Both teams had half-chances, before Jan-Luca Riedl called game in the 121st minute. The 14 year old headed home from a corner to clinch the B-Junioren Bundesliga title for the Borussia Dortmund U-17s.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, who was at the stadium to watch the game along with his successor Lars Ricken, technical director Sven Mislintat, and sporting director Sebastian Kehl, hailed the U-17s team after the game, saying, “Congratulations to the team, coaches and staff. The team showed great spirit, came from behind twice and were the better team from the second-half. We are all proud of the boys."
