Borussia Dortmund to possibly target transfers for French and Turkish talents
Borussia Dortmund’s transfer plans continue to take shape despite the close of the winter transfer window, with the club possibly looking to bolster their midfield. Olympique Lyonnais’ 18 year old midfielder Mahamadou Diawara seems to be one of the options the club has in mind.
Diawara recently joined Lyon this past summer on a free transfer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain came to an end. Upon joining, the player signed a long term contract until 2027.
According to reports, the French outfit received a plethora of offers from fellow Ligue 1 sides for Diawara’s services, but the club seem keen to hold onto him until the summer, where clubs such as Dortmund may look to make a stronger offer. Among the other clubs linked is fellow Bundesliga side Freiburg.
The player has currently amassed nine Ligue 1 appearances with which he has caught the attention of clubs such as Brighton and Lens too. Diawara could be an interesting signing for Dortmund, with the player having impressed so far in those 9 appearances. We also very much know how much Dortmund like getting involved in transfers for PSG Academy players.
On the Turkish front, Borussia Dortmund seem keen on signing Beşiktaş' young striker Semih Kılıçsoy, who has been impressing this season so far. The young attacker is two footed and praised for his dynamism and finishing ability. So far this season, he’s scored seven goals and provided two assists. His club allegedly value him at 25 million euros.
Dortmund will likely have a hefty turnover to deal with summer, which will leave a substantial amount of funds on the table for them to dispense with. While I wouldn’t highlight midfield or striker as the club’s primary concerns, additions in midfield could be welcome, especially in the case of a player like Diawara that Dortmund could mold into a future star.
Dortmund would have to make room in their squad for these players and both midfield and strikers positions are quite saturated. Both would likely seek substantial minutes on the pitch, especially Kılıçsoy who is already an important part of Beşiktaş’ setup. His alleged price tag may also be a bit of a stretch for the club as other areas of greater need will need to be shored up, which makes it seem like this move is unlikely to materialize.
