Borussia Dortmund’s season is in the penultimate stages as only a handful of games remain in the Bundesliga. Ahead of the summer, Dortmund have been identifying just what areas they need to focus on as their long awaited rebuild comes to fruition.

One area in particular that will hold quite a bit of the club’s attention is midfield. Current midfielders Emre Can, Salih Özcan, and Felix Nmecha have underwhelmed all season long due to factors both in and out of their control.

The loss of Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid still seems to haunt the club, with the midfield feeling disjointed at times and having trouble in terms of finding consistency in form, with performances swaying on a pendulum of secure to Swiss cheese from week to week.

Dortmund have already started to identify midfield targets to bring in, in the hopes of adding the needed quality to really up their game on the middle of the park, with the likes of PSV’s Jerdy Schouten allegedly being on their list of targets. Another name has surfaced however; a name that could see Dortmund go back to tapping up England for yet another jewel to help fill the gap left behind by Jude Bellingham. That player is Archie Gray.

According to reports from this month, Dortmund are considered Gray’s “preferred” destination due to the fact that he wouldn’t want to play for any other team in England should Leeds not get promoted for the coming season.

The question then is, what would the talented youngster bring to this Dortmund midfield? In this piece, we’ll take a look at just that, and hopefully shine some light on why this would actually be quite the coup for Dortmund if they were able to pull it off for a reasonable fee.
