Could Emre Can be replaced as Borussia Dortmund captain?

Nuri Sahin may look to appoint a new club captain at Borussia Dortmund this summer, with a report claiming that there are signs that Emre Can could be removed from the role.
Emre Can endured a difficult first season as Borussia Dortmund captain, but still managed to lead the club to the UEFA Champions League final. The midfielder's performances in the number six role last season often left a lot to be desired, and he could well face a fight to retain his place in the starting XI this season with BVB looking to sign Pascal Groß.
Borussia Dortmund could also make a change in captaincy this summer, with WAZ reporting that there are signs Can could lose the armband. The final decision on the captaincy issue will be made during BVB's upcoming training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.
Emre Can was appointed Borussia Dortmund captain by Edin Terzic
Can, who is currently on his post-Euro 2024 vacation, will be back in training by then and will hope to make a case to stay on as Borussia Dortmund captain. The 30 year old was appointed as BVB captain by Edin Terzic last summer, in what was a controversial move. He has been linked with a move to Napoli in recent months, but is expected to stay at BVB beyond the end of the summer transfer window.
If Sahin does decide to change his captain, Gregor Kobel, Julian Brandt, and Nico Schlotterbeck could emerge as the potential alternatives for the role.
Brandt captained Borussia Dortmund during their recent pre-season games in Asia, and has established himself as a leader in the dressing room over the last couple of years. Kobel was appointed vice-captain before the start of last season, while Schlotterbeck has also showcased his leadership credentials on a number of occasions.
