Borussia Dortmund will hope to start 2024 with a win as they resume their Bundesliga campaign with an away game against SV Darmstadt.

The winter break is over and Borussia Dortmund are set to return to Bundesliga action this weekend with a trip to SV Darmstadt. After a disappointing first half of the season, the Black and Yellows will be desperate to turn things around and boost their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Borussia Dortmund ended 2023 with just one win in eight Bundesliga matches, and significant improvements are needed quickly if they are to salvage their season. And those improvements could arrive via Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen, who have joined BVB on loan.

Sancho could start on the bench on Saturday, and Maatsen may even slot straight into the starting XI due to the lack of alternatives at left-back. Julian Ryerson, Felix Nmecha and Karim Adeyemi are currently injured, while Ramy Bensebaini and Sebastien Haller are both away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Marius Wolf is also a doubt due to illness.

Darmstadt will be without Fraser Hornby, Marvin Mehlem and Aaron Seydel on Saturday. Fabian Nürnberger is also a doubt for the Bundesliga strugglers. Torsten Lieberknecht's side find themselves at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, and have won just two games so far this season. They will be desperate to pull off a shock result this weekend to kick-start their campaign.
