Borussia Dortmund remain determined to create stars of the future, with Thomas Broich eager to see talented young players get more playing time at a high level.

Appointed as the sporting director of Borussia Dortmund's youth department this summer, Thomas Broich is determined to help more and more players make it to the club's first-team. The 43 year old gave an insight on the club's youth team philosophy in an interview with MagentaSport (via Kicker).

Thomas Broich wants to give Borussia Dortmund youngsters more chances

"The saying diamonds are made under pressure is so true in the youth sector. I believe that we have to take more risks in all areas, that we simply put the boys under more pressure at a much earlier stage. This risk also includes, for example, the fact that more and more younger players are moving up a team much earlier."

A youth shift was apparent in Borussia Dortmund's transfer market approach this summer, with CEO Lars Ricken saying that they intentionally built a smaller first-team squad in order to give players from the club's youth academy more opportunities.

In recent seasons, it had somewhat seemed that the first-team focus was shifting away from the youth. And that saw several talented players leave for pastures new, including Youssoufa Moukoko, Tom Rothe, and Paris Brunner.

Borussia Dortmund have several talented players in their youth team ranks, including the likes of Kjell Wätjen, Cole Campbell, Filippo Mane and Almugera Kabar. The quartet has received playing time with the BVB U-23s in the 3. Liga in recent weeks. And opportunities in the first-team could also follow as games come thick and fast.
