Edin Terzic: We showed what we are capable of in the second-half against Atletico Madrid
Edin Terzic believes that Borussia Dortmund showed their quality in the second-half of their Champions League quarterfinal against Atletico Madrid, and now wants them to build on it in the second leg.
Borussia Dortmund suffered a 2-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday. The Black and Yellows looked disjointed and made a number of sloppy errors in the first-half, falling two goals behind. But they turned things around after the break to ensure that the tie remains alive going into the second leg.
For Edin Terzic, the second-half showed Borussia Dortmund's real quality. The BVB head coach knows that his team wasn't good enough for the first 30 minutes. But he believes that they can still take plenty of positives from the game after their second-half fightback.
"The first 30 minutes simply weren't good enough," Terzic told DAZN. "If you make that many mistakes at this level, it's over in an instant. But we didn't accept that. In the second half, we showed clearly what we're capable of."
"It was important for us to show a reaction. Now it's all about taking the positives from the second-half. If we can keep this up for 90 minutes and maybe even 120 minutes, then it will be very exciting next week in Dortmund."
Goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino had given Atletico Madrid a two-goal lead, before Sebastien Haller scored in the 81st minute to keep Borussia Dortmund in the tie. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julian Brandt were both denied by the crossbar late on. And Edin Terzic's side will now hope to complete their comeback in the second leg at the Westfalenstadion next week.
