Edin Terzic: Two-striker system definitely an option for the future
Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic is not ruling out the possibility of playing Youssoufa Moukoko and Niclas Füllkrug together up front again in the future.
With Julian Brandt and Marco Reus both dealing with illness, Edin Terzic made the shock decision to field both Youssoufa Moukoko and Niclas Füllkrug in the starting XI for the Bundesliga clash against VfL Bochum on Sunday.
The two-striker system ended up working well for Borussia Dortmund, as they earned a 3-1 win. Füllkrug was the star of the show for the Black and Yellows, scoring a match-winning hat-trick. Moukoko also delivered a strong performance, came close to scoring and linked up really well with his teammates.
Terzic was pleased with how the change in formation worked, and hinted that Moukoko and Füllkrug could start together up front again in the future. In an interview with DAZN after the game, the BVB head coach said, "The two-striker system worked well in many phases. They were both very active and worked hard."
"Füllkrug was very confident on the ball and scored our first hat-trick of the season. Youssoufa was a bit unlucky at times, both in his finishing and his passing. But he worked really hard, made a number of forward runs, and ran at the central defenders and the goalkeeper. We did a good job and that [playing with two strikers] is definitely an option for the future."
Both Youssoufa Moukoko and Niclas Füllkrug have enjoyed a strong start to 2024, and have scored a combined six goals in just three matches. Both strikers will now hope to continue their impressive run of form in the coming weeks, and perhaps even form a partnership in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI.
