Former Germany internationals Lothar Matthäus and Didi Hamann believe that Borussia Dortmund will finish behind Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in the coming season.
The 2024/25 Bundesliga season is finally upon us, and Borussia Dortmund will kick-off their campaign with a home game against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend. Ahead of the opening matchday of the season, Sky Sport experts have had their say on which team will finish where in the standings.
Lothar Matthäus believes that Bayern Munich will regain their Bundesliga crown this season, and pip Bayer Leverkusen to the title. According to the former Germany captain, Borussia Dortmund have strengthened their squad well and have a very exciting project at the moment. Matthäus has placed Nuri Sahin's side in third place in his standings prediction.
"Leverkusen and Bayern are the favourites, but Dortmund have strengthened their squad very well. They have lost experienced players, but have added fresh impetus with new players," Matthäus said. "Dortmund is an exciting project, but Leipzig and Stuttgart are not far off the top either."
Didi Hamann, meanwhile, is of the opinion that Bayer Leverkusen will once again be the team to beat this season. After winning the Bundesliga title last season without losing a single game, Xabi Alonso's side will have their sights set on retaining their crown.
The former Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder believes that Leverkusen will win the Bundesliga title once again, with Bayern finishing in second place. He expects Borussia Dortmund to place third, with RB Leipzig completing the top four.
Meanwhile, former Germany international and Bundesliga commentator Julia Simic has predicted that Borussia Dortmund will finish fourth this season, with Bayer Leverkusen retaining their title. She expects Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig to finish second and third, respectively.
