Gregor Kobel lauded Niklas Süle for his special goal-line block to prevent Kylian Mbappe from scoring during Borussia Dortmund's clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Niklas Süle pulled off one of most incredible blocks of the year on Wednesday as he prevented Kylian Mbappe from scoring what looked like a certain goal. The PSG star had raced through on goal, rounded past BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, and had an open net to score into. But Süle somehow managed to get back in time and cleared Mbappe's shot away with a spectacular last-ditch effort.
The block proved to be vital for Borussia Dortmund, as it helped prevent them from going behind early in the game. The game ultimately ended 1-1, which allowed the Black and Yellows to finish as Group F winners.
Gregor Kobel hailed Süle after the game for his sensational last-ditch challenge. "It was a very special piece of play from Niklas. When I looked behind me, I thought: okay, it's a goal. Then the leg went up. I was really happy for him. It was an outstanding tackle."
Edin Terzic was also full of praise of Niklas Süle, and said that the block felt very much like a goal for Borussia Dortmund. "We're delighted with every tackle that looks like that, it was exceptional. I think Mbappe was really shocked that the ball didn't go in. Niklas did a great job. It felt like a goal for us."
Borussia Dortmund went on to take the lead in the second-half through Karim Adeyemi, before Warren Zaïre-Emery scored to secure a share of the spoils for PSG.
