GK: Gregor Kobel - The Swiss keeper has been a mainstay in goal for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club from VfB Stuttgart. He is still expected to protect the BVB goal and help his side to glory. His shot-stopping ability and ability to play out from the back will be crucial throughout the season.

RB: Yan Couto - The 22-year-old right back is rated very highly. Following his brilliant season on loan at Girona, a lot of expectations have been put on the Brazilian. He is skilled at taking on defenders and creating chances, which will be a valuable asset for the club.

CB: Waldemar Anton - Anton joined Borussia Dortmund as the replacement for Mats Hummels, and will hope to make a similar impact as the 2014 World Cup winner did at the club. The 28 year old, who spent four years each in both Hannover and Stuttgart, has been putting on impressive performances in recent years. His move to Dortmund seems like the right transition at the right time. He is a modern day centre-back who excels in build up play.

CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - Newly appointed third captain Nico Schlotterbeck will take on even more responsibility at Borussia Dortmund this season. He has gone from strength to strength since joining BVB from SC Freiburg, and has established himself as one of the leaders of the side. His ability to win duels and pass from the back will come in handy.

LB: Julian Ryerson - One of the most underrated players at Borussia Dortmund is Julian Ryerson. The Norwegian has excelled on both flanks, with his astute defending earning him many plaudits. With Yan Couto arriving from Manchester City, the Norwegian could well be moved to left-back. His one-on-one defending will be key to BVB's hopes.
