Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender both secured spectacular returns to Borussia Dortmund last month, with the duo set to serve as part of Edin Terzic's coaching staff. But plenty of questions remain, including where they will fit in, what they will bring to the team, and what their arrivals mean for the under-pressure Terzic.

The Borussia Dortmund head coach, who found some success during his first caretaker stint, now finds himself in a similar position once again. With a potential successor already working with the first-team, Terzic may feel like his authority has been somewhat diminished. Terzic came under plenty of criticism due to the team's poor form going into the winter break. And it will be interesting to see how this collaboration with two former BVB midfielders goes for the 41 year old.

There were even claims of a player revolt against Terzic's defensive tactics as rumours went into silly season due to Borussia Dortmund's dip in form. Both Sahin and Bender are respected highly at the club, and their respected status should help quell this unrest, while promoting positivity at a time when the club's season threatens to go off the rails.

Regardless, there are still deeper tactical issues at the club which simply cannot be masked anymore. Terzic was guilty of employing a highly defensive and pragmatic approach, and questions remain as to whether or not Bender and Sahin can help offer the tweaks needed to get the club back on track. Here we take a look at their coaching backgrounds and discuss what tactics they have employed in their previous roles.
