Borussia Dortmund could face competition from Italian sides AC Milan and Juventus in their bid to keep Mats Hummels at the club beyond the end of the season.

The future of Mats Hummels remains uncertain heading into the Champions League final, and the centre-back is expected to finalize his plans after the end of the season. Borussia Dortmund would like to keep the veteran defender at the club for another season, but he could yet decide to call time on his career or move to another club.

According to BILD, Hummels is attracting the interest of Italian Serie A clubs AC Milan and Juventus. Both clubs are interested in signing the 35 year old on a free transfer.

It remains to be seen whether Hummels would be interested in a move to the Serie A at this stage of the career. The defender, who has played some of the best football of his career this season, has spent his entire playing career in the Bundesliga.

Having played in 507 games for Borussia Dortmund, Hummels is the club's second-highest appearance maker of all time. He said in an interview with the club's website recently that he considers BVB his home. "This club is my home, I've spent over 13 years of my professional career at BVB," Hummels said. "I took the first steps towards becoming a professional footballer here. When I got here, we were 13th in the league and I've been through all the stages which have turned us into a club at international level. As a footballer, I'm a Dortmunder, there's no question about that."

Mats Hummels has rolled back the years with his performances for Borussia Dortmund this season. And he will hope to crown his excellent season by helping the club win the Champions League final against Real Madrid. After that, a very difficult decision about his future awaits him.
