A sublime brace from Jamie Gittens gave Borussia Dortmund the three points against Eintracht Frankfurt in a closely contested clash.

It didn't necessarily make for pretty viewing, but Borussia Dortmund managed to begin their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Jamie Gittens came off the bench and scored a brace to give Nuri Sahin the three points in his first Bundesliga game as head coach.

There wasn't much to separate the two sides over the course of the 90 minutes, and Gittens' incisiveness in front of goal made the difference in the end.

Borussia Dortmund dominated possession at the Westfalenstadion, while Eintracht Frankfurt looked dangerous at times on the counter-attack and missed a few decent opportunities. The Black and Yellows improved as the game went on, and their strength in depth ultimately helped them get over the line.

Jamie Gittens' first goals since November inspire Borussia Dortmund to victory

Gittens produced two moments of brilliance to lead Borussia Dortmund to victory. His first goal was a beautifully whipped strike after cutting in from the left flank. The second goal came in stoppage time at the end of a swift counter-attack, with Gittens making an excellent forward run before finding the bottom corner.

The brace marked a return to goalscoring ways for Gittens, who hadn't found the back of the net in nine months. The 20 year old England youth international will now hope to build on his promising start to the season and establish himself as a key player for Borussia Dortmund.

Pascal Groß also had a strong evening as he delivered some dangerous set-pieces, before assisting Gittens for the opening goal. Ramy Bensebaini, meanwhile, made a vital last-ditch challenge just before the second goal. BVB also defended well for the majority of the game to clinch a hard-fought win.

Next up for Borussia Dortmund is a trip to Werder Bremen on August 31, where another potentially tricky test could lie in store for them.
