Marco Reus scores in farewell game as Borussia Dortmund cruise past Darmstadt
Borussia Dortmund ended their Bundesliga campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win over Darmstadt, as Marco Reus celebrated his farewell with a goal and an assist.
He came to Borussia Dortmund as a skinny kid, he leaves as one of the greatest ever players in the history of the club. Marco Reus celebrated his BVB farewell on Saturday afternoon by leading his side to a dominant 4-0 win over Darmstadt.
Saturday's game was a celebration of Reus' career at Borussia Dortmund, and the attacking midfielder was the star of the show on the pitch as he set up the opening goal before finding the back of the net with with a beautifully struck free-kick. Julian Brandt then came off the bench and scored BVB's third, before Donyell Malen added the icing on the cake.
Marco Reus captained Borussia Dortmund as he celebrated his final appearance for the club in the Bundesliga. And he was given an incredible tribute by the fans before the game in the form of a beautiful tifo.
The 34 year old was very much in the thick of things for Borussia Dortmund in the first-half, running the show from the number ten role. He hit the crossbar early on, before setting up Ian Maatsen for the opening goal. The Dutch full-back let a shot fly from the edge of the box and found the bottom corner with excellent precision.
Reus then doubled Borussia Dortmund's lead in trademark fashion eight minutes later, as he brilliantly curled home a free-kick from the edge of the box.
Julian Brandt came on in the second-half and joined the party, as he got on the end of Jadon Sancho's chipped pass before making it 3-0. Donyell Malen added a fourth late on to finish the season as Borussia Dortmund's top scorer in the Bundesliga.
The afternoon, though, belonged to Marco Reus, who bid adieu to the Westfalenstadion by making it 300 goal contributions for the club. The club legend ended the afternoon singing and celebrating with the fans in the stands. He will now hope to cap off his incredible BVB career by lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy in two weeks' time.
