Mateu Morey has said that returning to Bundesliga action with Borussia Dortmund after nearly three years of injury struggles was the best moment of his career so far.

After enduring three excruciating years of injuries and multiple setbacks, Mateu Morey finally made his return to Bundesliga action with Borussia Dortmund on Friday evening. The Spaniard received a rousing reception and a standing ovation from the BVB faithful as he came off the bench late on during the Bundesliga clash against SC Freiburg.

It was Morey's first competitive appearance for Borussia Dortmund since the serious knee injury he suffered during the DFB-Pokal semifinals in May 2021. It was also his first game in front of a sold-out Westfalenstadion, making the occasion even more incredible for him. The 23 year old spoke about how special the moment of his return was after the game.

In an interview with the club, Morey said, "this day will forever stay in my heart. I've worked so hard to get to this moment. Now its time to keep working hard and fighting for more. I've never been lucky enough to play at Signal Iduna Park in front of all these people. It was the best moment of my career so far."

"For two and a half years I went to bed thinking that one day this moment would come. I am very grateful to the fans, coaches, teammates, physios. All the words in the world are not enough to say thank you for what they have done for me."

Mateu Morey worked immensely hard to fight his way back into the Borussia Dortmund first-team. Now, he is determined to play his part and give his all on the pitch for the Black and Yellows.
