Mats Hummels continues to be coy about his future, with a decision on his plans not expected until after the end of the season.

Few would have expected Mats Hummels to play such a key role for Borussia Dortmund this season. But the 35 year old has cemented himself as one of the team's most important players once again, producing vintage defensive performances and leading BVB's charge in the UEFA Champions League.

Fans were treated to another defensive masterclass by Hummels on Wednesday as he kept Kylian Mbappe and co. at bay to help Borussia Dortmund win the first leg of their Champions League semifinal 1-0.

After the game, the veteran centre-back spoke about his future. Asked by DAZN about whether it may have been his final Champions League game at the Westfalenstadion, Hummels said, "Possibly. Nothing has been decided yet. It can go in any direction."

"I've given it some thought. It will only be decided when the season is over. I'm enjoying keeping my mind free at the moment. It can go in any direction. The Champions League with BVB is secured for next season, that's also a big aspect. I just have to see what the options are and what I want to do.”

Hummels' current contract with Borussia Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season. It has been reported in recent weeks that the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner is now ready to extend his contract, and talks are already underway.

Mats Hummels, who has made a total of 505 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, will have a crucial role to play next week as Edin Terzic's side look to make the Champions League final for the first time since 2013.
