Mats Hummels has not been included in the Germany squad for Euro 2024 despite his excellent recent performances for Borussia Dortmund.

Julian Nagelsmann has made the decision not to call up Mats Hummels for this summer's European Championship, according to multiple reports in Germany. Despite being one of Borussia Dortmund's top performers this season, the veteran centre-back has not been able to earn a recall to the Germany squad.

The decision to not include Hummels is a big surprise, as the 35 year old has rolled back the years with his performances this season. The 2014 World Cup winner has stepped up and led the BVB defence really well, and has played a key role in their run to the Champions League final.

Hummels, who has represented Germany on 78 occasions, has yet to make a final decision on his future beyond the end of the season. His current contract at Borussia Dortmund will expire at the end of the current campaign.

The call-ups of Nico Schlotterbeck, Jonathan Tah, and Robin Koch to the Germany squad have already been announced. Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger is also set to be included as Germany look to win the European Championship on home soil. With Hummels not receiving a call-up, Waldemar Anton of VfB Stuttgart could now be named as the fifth centre-back in the squad.

The full Germany squad for the European Championship will be announced on Thursday. Germany are set to face Scotland, Switzerland and Hungary during the group stage.
