A 92nd minute equaliser from Niclas Füllkrug helped Germany rescue a 1-1 draw against Switzerland and secure top spot in their Euro 2024 group.

Despite dominating proceedings for much of their Group A matchday three contest against Switzerland, Germany were facing the prospect of finishing second in their Euro 2024 group following Dan Ndoye’s impressive first-half strike. But Niclas Füllkrug had other ideas as he came off the bench and came up with yet another vital goal for his side.

The Borussia Dortmund striker rose highest and got on the end of David Raum’s cross to head home the equalising goal for Germany in the 92nd minute. The goal, Füllkrug’s second of Euro 2024, helped Germany progress to the round of 16 as Group A winners.

Having enjoyed a perfect start to their Euro 2024 campaign on home soil, Germany were left frustrated by a resilient Switzerland side for much of the 90 minutes. Robert Andrich had a goal ruled out, while Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, and Joshua Kimmich all came close to scoring.

Julian Nagelsmann’s second-half substitutions made the desired effect, as Germany threw the kitchen sink at the game in a bid to rescue top spot in Group A. And the Waldstadion breathed a sigh of relief in the second minute of stoppage time when Füllkrug came up with the all-important equaliser.

Füllkrug has now scored 12 goals in just 18 appearances for Germany, an incredible feat from the striker whose late career resurgence continues to reach new heights.

Germany will now face the Group C runners-up in the round of 16, with England, Denmark, Slovenia, and Serbia being their possible opponents.
