Niclas Füllkrug happy to play the role of the creator at Borussia Dortmund
Niclas Füllkrug has said that he is pleased with his goal and assist numbers for Borussia Dortmund so far this season, stating that he is happy to help the team in any way he can.
After a slow start to life at Borussia Dortmund, Niclas Füllkrug has managed to make a big impact since the turn of the year. The Germany international has nine goal involvements in just eight Bundesliga appearances in 2024, taking his tally for the season to 13 goals and nine assists.
In an interview with Sky Sport, Füllkrug spoke about following in the footsteps of Erling Haaland, who scored goals for fun during his time with Borussia Dortmund. "I knew that I was doing well with my goalscoring this season. I am averaging almost one goal/assist per game. But of course you always have to look at things in a realistic manner. Erling Haaland scored significantly more goals than me and was also better in terms of scoring. Obviously, you don't need to compare us."
Füllkrug also commented on his high number of assists, and said that he is happy to play the role of the creator as long as it helps the team. "I think that says a lot about the quality of our attack. If you think about it, we also have wide players who have played the central striker role at other clubs. They are also determined players who like to finish chances and have the ability to show their individual quality. That's why I often find myself in the role of the creator. As long as I can help and it's good for the team, I'm completely okay with that."
Niclas Füllkrug joined Borussia Dortmund from Werder Bremen last summer, and quickly established himself as the club's first-choice striker. He will go up against his former employers this weekend, as the Black and Yellows make the trip to the Weser Stadium in the Bundesliga.
