RB: Mateu Morey - Julian Ryerson could be given a breather against Mainz, and Morey will hope for a chance in the starting XI for the second Bundesliga game running.

CB: Niklas Süle - With Mats Hummels a prime candidate for some rest, Süle could return to the starting XI against Mainz. It has been a difficult season so far for the former Bayern Munich defender, and he will hope to impress on Saturday.

CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - Antonios Papadopoulos started against Augsburg last weekend, but with no mid-week matches coming up, Schlotterbeck could feature against Mainz. The 24 year old has been ever-present for Borussia Dortmund this season, and will hope to continue his case for a call-up to the Germany squad for the Euros on Saturday.

LB: Marius Wolf - Ian Maatsen is another candidate for some rest and Wolf could start in his stead. The boyhood BVB fan could make his penultimate appearance for the club on Saturday, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

CM: Kjell Wätjen - The highly rated Wätjen showed a good account of himself on his first-team debut against Augsburg last weekend. He will likely get some minutes on the pitch on Saturday as well, and it will be interesting to see if Edin Terzic gives him another chance in the starting XI.

CM: Felix Nmecha - After finding the back of the net against Augsburg, Nmecha will hope to showcase his quality this weekend as well. The towering midfielder is likely to replace Marcel Sabitzer in the starting XI.
