Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup for PSV Eindhoven clash
Borussia Dortmund will hope to return to winning ways on Tuesday as they take on PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
It is crunch time in the UEFA Champions League for Borussia Dortmund, who will be in round of 16 action against the in-form PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening. The Eredivisie leaders will pose a formidable challenge to the Black and Yellows, who have struggled for consistency all season long.
Borussia Dortmund will be sweating on the fitness of Donyell Malen ahead of their trip to his former club. The Dutch forward has been in sublime form since the turn of the year, and will hope to overcome his knee issue. Sebastien Haller is sidelined with an ankle injury, while Karim Adeyemi is also not expected to be available on Tuesday for BVB.
Here we take a look at how Borussia Dortmund could line up for their Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven.
Gregor Kobel will start in goal and will have his task cut out against the free-scoring PSV Eindhoven. The Swiss shot-stopper was excellent during the Champions League group stage, and will now hope to pick up right where he left off.
Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck have become Edin Terzic's centre-back duo of choice. And that is not expected to change on Tuesday, even if Mats Hummels has been BVB's man for the big ocassions over the last couple of seasons.
Ian Maatsen will start at left-back against the club he spent three years with before joining Chelsea. Julian Ryerson is set to keep his place on the opposite flank.
Borussia Dortmund's lack of quality in defensive midfield has come to the fore in recent weeks, but club captain Emre Can will keep his place in the number six role against PSV. Starting slightly in front will be Marcel Sabitzer, who has found some form since the turn of the year.
Julian Brandt had a game to forget against Wolfsburg, and the hope will be that the playmaker can find his form against PSV. Marco Reus will also likely keep his place in the starting XI, unless Donyell Malen can overcome his knee injury to play from the start.
Jadon Sancho is still searching for his first goal since his loan move from Manchester United. He will hope to impress on the big stage on Tuesday.
Niclas Füllkrug will start up front once again for Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. The Germany international has scored in four of BVB's last five games.
Expected Borussia Dortmund starting XI vs PSV Eindhoven: Kobel - Ryerson, Süle, Schlotterbeck, Maatsen - Can, Sabitzer, Brandt - Reus, Sancho - Füllkrug
