Puma has been the kit supplier for Borussia Dortmund since the 2012-13 season. They took over from Kappa and have been with the club ever since. The two sides have a deal until the 2027/28 season and Puma has been a shareholder of Dortmund since 2014.

Over the past few years, Puma and Dortmund have released special kits and it all started with two winter edition kits in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. It stopped for a while before the introduction of one-off kits beginning in the 2017-18 season with #HumanChemistry replacing Evonik as sponsor in a match against Bayern Munich.

Other one-off sponsors include Danke Kumpel and Medox in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, respectively. Dortmund is also unafraid to get involved with social issues such as having pride-colored and Ukraine flag-colored sponsors in partnership with 1&1. Their Borussia Verbindet even received an award from UEFA for the club's fight against racism and discrimination.

All of these shirts have a great message behind them but from a design perspective, they were pretty simple. Thankfully, Puma and Dortmund have released six special edition shirts since 2012 with patterns and styles.
