Borussia Dortmund are allegedly contemplating further transfer business as the club has been linked with Atlético Madrid center back Çağlar Söyüncü. Söyüncü singed for the La Liga side back in the summer, but due to limited time on the pitch he is allegedly looking at options that would allow him to move away for more play-time.

Söyüncü, 27, played in the Bundesliga for SC Freiburg between 2016 and 2018 before making the jump to the Premier League with Leicester City. The Turkish international has a total of six La Liga appearances and two Champions league appearances for Atlético, which for a player in their prime is clearly not a situation that’s easy to navigate.

Of course, Dortmund already have one unsettled center back in the form of Niklas Süle, who has also had limited time on the pitch under head coach Edin Terzić. While adding another center back would likely be a good call on the part of the club, it would only feasible if Terzić were to actually rotate the squad.

Any sort of move for Söyüncü at this time is clearly speculative, and it remains to be seen if  he is the right candidate, especially considering he is a player that would seemingly require substantial minutes. Söyüncü would be the clear 4th choice pick behind. Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck and the aforementioned Süle, so the stage isn’t necessarily set for Dortmund to be able to provide him with a project he would be willing to except.

Dortmund would also be better suited to target a younger profile of player they can help build up with the experience in defense mentioned to be a future cornerstone of the team. The club were previously linked with Armel Bella-Kotchap, with a summer move having failed due to the paramters of the potential loan. Dortmund would however be better suited to try for Bella-Kotchap again, as the overall up-side of such a deal would be more impactful for the club in the long run.
