Borussia Dortmund are said to be confident of completing the signing of left-back Ian Maatsen from Chelsea this month.
The January transfer window has gotten off to a blistering start for Borussia Dortmund, with those in charge looking to complete the signging of Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United in the coming days. Signing a new left-back is also on the Black and Yellows' agenda for this month. And Ian Maatsen of Chelsea is said to be their top target.
With Chelsea looking to sell the 21 year old this month, there have been some doubts over the feasibility over a potential move to Borussia Dortmund. But according to the Telegraph, the BVB bosses are optimistic of completing the signing of the Netherlands U-21s international.
Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, and the expectation is that an agreement will be found in the coming days. Borussia Dortmund would like to sign Maatsen on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, and the player is also keen on a move to the Westfalenstadion.
With Julian Ryerson injured and Ramy Bensebaini away with Algeria for the Africa Cup of Nations, Borussia Dortmund will be keen to complete the signing of a new left-back before their first Bundesliga game of 2024 - against SV Darmstadt 98 on January 13.
Ian Maatsen, who joined Chelsea in 2018, has only been used sporadically this season and has been limited to just 15 appearances so far. He showed his quality on loan at Burnley last season, and notched up four goals and six assists as they won promotion to the Premier League.
