Report: Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus joins MLS side LA Galaxy
Over the course of this summer transfer window, Borussia Dortmund has lost some high-profile players in the interest of the club’s current vision of a squad rebuild. The most significant of these losses was the club's decision to let club legend Marco Reus leave after his deal expired at the end of the season.
Dortmund’s decision to let Reus leave was reportedly made on the basis that Reus wanted to continue his career at a club where he would be getting significant minutes. Dortmund’s vision was to have Reus play more of a backup role to Julian Brandt in the coming campaign, which ended up being the reason for the club and player parting ways.
Speculation has been rife with regard to where Reus would eventually end up, and there seems to be final clarity in this regard. After being linked to numerous MLS clubs, Reus has seemingly settled on joining the LA Galaxy.
The Galaxy have signed Reus to an initial deal until December 2025, with the option to extend the deal should they see fit. In Reus, the Galaxy is getting a player whose career, had it not been hampered by injuries, could have been even more exceptional than it already was. Reus was an absolute talisman for Dortmund after returning to his boyhood club in the 2012/13 season at the behest of Jürgen Klopp. The former German international and Dortmund captain was responsible for scoring 170 goals and providing 131 assists for Die Schwarzgelben, making him the club's second-highest outright scorer ever.
While Reus may no longer be with Dortmund, his contributions to the club will forever be immortalized in the memory of those who had the privilege to watch him play at the Westfalenstadion. It’s safe to assume that his chapter in MLS will also be one to remember, as he still has the ability to be a quality player on his day and make a difference on the pitch for whatever side he represents.
