Over the course of the last year, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel has been on the radar of many clubs as a possible transfer target. It’s no surprise that clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea have shown interest given the Swiss shot stopper’s sublime performances for Die Schwarzgelben.

According to reports brought to light by Sky Sport, the most recent suitor to try to sway Kobel to leave the Westfalenstadion was Paris Saint-Germain. The French club were said to have shown interest, but Ligue 1 is “not a topic” for Kobel at this time.

Of course, PSG also have Gianluigi Donnarumma on the books, so it’s hard to see how Kobel and the Italian international co-existing in one side. Kobel has shown that he is an absolutely class shot stopper, and any sort of insinuation that he would come in to compete with Donnarumma for a spot is almost insulting to his prowess as a keeper.

Kobel has become one of, if not Dortmund’s most important players since joining from VFB Stuttgart in 2021. The club’s vice captain has previously said that he sees his future at Dortmund for the long term, which rejecting PSG’s advances could underline.

In an interview following BVB’s 4-2 win against Union Berlin earlier this season, Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller underlined his support for Kobel (not for the first time) by stating that the Swiss shot stopper is both the present and future of Borussia Dortmund:

"He is very young and he has had great performances before…he knows the Bundesliga but the future is in his hands and Gregor is the future of Borussia Dortmund. He signed a new contract just now, so it is a great sign for BVB and for Gregor Kobel…it is a great match for both sides."

Weidenfeller’s words came in the advent of of Kobel’s contract extension; a contract that is set to keep Kobel at the club until 2028. The length of the contract alone is a testament to Kobel’s commitment to building a decorated history with the club. One can only hope the club moves to bring in the proper personnel to help support Kobel in this endeavor.
