With many changes set to take place at Borussia Dortmund as the summer continues, many players will be assessing their situation at the club after lackluster performances. Others will be looking from a perspective where they weren’t really given the chance to shine.

The future of one player in particular has been of strong interest going into the summer. Youssoufa Moukoko’s future has been up for debate after the Germany international had very few chances to shine under then-head coach Edin Terzić.

With the appointment of Nuri Şahin however, Moukoko is amongst a few players who may have a new lease on life at the club. Per Ruhr Nachrichten, Moukoko is looking to stay and fight for his place at the club, with the thought process being that he could possibly fit into Şahin’s plans in a way that didn’t seem feasible under Terzić.

This is an all-around positive for the club as the player is and has been considered one of the best academy products the youth setup has produced in years. The trajectory his career was following, meaning possible departure, would’ve been a failure of significant proportions for the club in terms of maintaining a pipeline from the academy to the first team.

Moukoko won’t have an easy time of it however as he will still have to compete with quite a few players to start at striker. The future of Sébastien Haller is still unclear, and Niclas Füllkrug has been performing exceptionally well for Germany during the Euros. Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy is also likely set to join Dortmund, which means that if the club doesn’t make room they will have four strikers for one position.

It is very likely that the club will look to move Haller on to pastures new, which in reality would be the only reasonable course of action for the club to take ahead of next season, especially considering that Haller could still prove to be a strong player for another Bundesliga side or beyond. As for Moukoko, a fresh start at BVB would be a welcome end to the current saga surrounding the young talent’s future.
