Report: Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta on Borussia Dortmund's list of targets
Borussia Dortmund could look to make a move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer in a bid to bolster their forward ranks.
It is no secret that Borussia Dortmund want to sign a new striker this summer, with Serhou Guirassy thought to be their preferred candidate. The in-form Stuttgart number nine will be available for a cut-price fee in the region of 18 million euros this season thanks to a release clause in his contract. But the Black and Yellows will face competition from several other clubs in the race for his signature.
Guirassy is not the only name on Borussia Dortmund's list of targets, though, with SportBILD claiming that they also have interest in signing Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The 26 year old is coming off an excellent season with Crystal Palace, having scored 19 goals and assisted a further five in 39 appearances across all competitions. He has enjoyed a stunning renaissance under former Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner. According to the magazine, he is expected to cost at least 20 million euros this summer.
Mateta has Bundesliga experience under his belt, having played for Mainz 05 before his move to Crystal Palace. The Frenchman was also linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund last summer, but they ended up signing Niclas Füllkrug instead.
In order for Borussia Dortmund to sign a new striker, they must first resolve the futures of Youssoufa Moukoko and Sebastien Haller. Both strikers are reportedly free to leave the club this summer, with the new signing expected to compete with Füllkrug for a starting spot in the team next season.
