Borussia Dortmund may have to compete with Bayern Munich if they decide to pursue a permanent move for Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen.

Having joined on loan from Chelsea in January, Ian Maatsen has slotted in seamlessly at Borussia Dortmund. The Dutch full-back has quickly established himself as an important part of the team, and many are already calling for BVB to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season.

There is a release clause of around 35 million euros in Maatsen's current contract with Chelsea. And while the 22 year old feels comfortable at Borussia Dortmund, it remains to be seen if the club will be able to afford a permanent move for him in the summer. The Black and Yellows could also face competition from several other clubs for Maatsen's signature, including Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

According to both Sky Sport and BILD, the reigning Bundesliga champions have Maatsen on their list of targets for this summer. Bayern Munich could part ways with Alphonso Davies at the end of the season, with Real Madrid interested in signing him. If Davies leaves Bayern, they would need to sign a new left-back. And Maatsen is one of the players they are considering, along with Theo Hernandez of AC Milan. Both reports claim that there has been no contact yet between Bayern and Maatsen.

Ian Maatsen has scored one goal and assisted a further two in 12 apppearances so far for Borussia Dortmund. He has replaced Ramy Bensebaini as the club's first-choice left-back.
