Report: Mats Hummels leaning towards Borussia Dortmund exit
By Tushar Bahl
Mats Hummels could leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, with the prospect of an exit seemingly more likely than a contract extension at the moment.
Borussia Dortmund are set to take part in their first UEFA Champions League final since 2013 as they go up against Real Madrid on Saturday evening. And much like 11 years ago, Mats Hummels will be crucial to his side's hopes as they look to defy the odds and win the CL crown for the first time in 27 years.
The Wembley showpiece could also mark the end of the veteran centre-back's time at Borussia Dortmund, with Sky Sport claiming that he is currently leaning towards leaving the club on a free transfer this summer.
The current contract of Hummels is set to expire at the end of the season, and he stated recently that he could consider a move abroad if he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund. AC Milan and Juventus are both said to be interested in signing the 35 year old this summer, and a move to Italy could be a realistic option.
Hummels is Borussia Dortmund's second highest appearance maker of all time, with Saturday's game set to be his 508th in a black and yellow shirt. He has rolled back the years with his performances for BVB this season, and will now hope to finally win the Champions League title that has eluded him throughout his career.
If Hummels does leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, those in charge could look to bring in as many as two centre-backs. Waldemar Anton of VfB Stuttgart and Dean Huijsen of AS Roma are said to be two candidates on BVB's list of targets.
