Report: Napoli considering move for Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Emre Can appears to be one of the names on Napoli's list of targets for the January transfer window.
The January transfer window is upon us, which means that it is also time for silly season in terms of rumours. Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport is claiming that Napoli are considering a move for Emre Can, with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder one of the names on their list of targets.
Napoli will look to bolster their squad in the middle of the park this month, and they apparently view Can as a potential alternative. The 29 year old already has Italian Serie A experience under his belt, having played for Juventus. The newspaper speculates that a move for Can would cost Napoli around 20 million euros.
It remains to be seen how serious Napoli's interest is in signing Can, but Borussia Dortmund are highly unlikely to sanction a sale of their club captain in the middle of the season.
The Germany international was linked with a move away from BVB in the summer, but was instead handed a contract extension and the club captaincy in what was a rather unexpected turnaround. He has been a regular part of Edin Terzic's starting XI this season, and that is unlikely to change following the turn of the year.
Emre Can has made a total of 19 appearances for Borussia Dortmund so far this season. The former Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen player still has two and a half years left on his current contract.
