Sebastian Kehl, Nuri Sahin happy with the size of Borussia Dortmund squad

Sebastian Kehl and Nuri Sahin are not worried about the size of the Borussia Dortmund squad, and are confident that the team has what it takes to compete on multiple fronts this season.
The summer transfer window is in the books, and the Borussia Dortmund squad is set for the coming months. There are some worries that the Black and Yellows do not have enough depth in certain positions to deal with the gruelling campaign that lies in store for them.
Borussia Dortmund are left with just two senior centre-backs in the squad for their next Bundesliga game following Nico Schlotterbeck's suspension. While one of Emre Can and Ramy Bensebaini will likely replace Schlotterbeck for the home game against Heidenheim, the lack of depth at centre-back is especially a concern.
"I think we're well equipped" - Nuri Sahin on Borussia Dortmund squad size
Both Sebastian Kehl and Nuri Sahin spoke about the size of the Borussia Dortmund squad following the team's goalless draw against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
"I like working with smaller squads," Sahin said after the game. "Of course, if you have four or five major injuries, things can get tight. We have versatile players. It was important for us to keep the door open for our young players. I think we're very, very well equipped."
"We have plenty of young players that we want to promote. Part of the planning was to slim down the squad and fill it with young, hungry players. They should get playing time. That's why we made a conscious decision to take this step," said Kehl.
Borussia Dortmund's squad depth will certainly be tested in the coming months, with the league phase of the revamped UEFA Champions League set to get underway after the international break. And it will be interesting to see how the BVB squad handles the ever-growing and gruelling fixture list that awaits them.
