Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Sebastien Haller for the next few weeks after his ankle injury flared up during the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Sebastien Haller scored winners in the semifinals and final as Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations last week. But the striker will now be sidelined for the foreseeable future, after the ankle injury he suffered in December flared up during the AFCON final.

Borussia Dortmund have revealed that Haller twisted his ankle against Nigeria, and had to be substituted towards the end as a result. Examinations carried out in Dortmund on Friday morning revealed that there has been a recurrence of his ankle injury. It remains to be seen exactly how long the 29 year old will be sidelined for. But he will be unavailable for at least the next few weeks.

The injury is another big blow for Haller, who found playing time hard to come by in the first half of the season. The Ivory Coast international would have hoped to take his momentum from the Africa Cup of Nations into the second half of the season with Borussia Dortmund. But he will now have to spend the next few weeks on the sidelines.

Niclas Füllkrug is Borussia Dortmund's first-choice striker at the moment, and will likely keep his spot in the starting XI in the coming games. Youssoufa Moukoko is another option for Edin Terzic to call upon, while Donyell Malen was also used in a central role last week.
