Stefan Effenberg: Edin Terzic still the right man for the job at Borussia Dortmund
Stefan Effenberg believes that Edin Terzic remains the right coach for Borussia Dortmund, despite the team's failure to compete for the Bundesliga title this season.
A lot has been said and written about Borussia Dortmund's woes this season, with Edin Terzic especially coming under pressure for the team's underwhelming performances in the Bundesliga. There were calls for Terzic to be sacked following BVB's poor first half of the season, but those in charge decided to keep him on as head coach.
The Black and Yellows have enjoyed a much-improved start to 2024, with four wins and a draw from their opening five games. But it appears to be a bit too late for their title hopes.
Despite Borussia Dortmund's inconsistent run in the Bundesliga, Stefan Effenberg is of the opinion that Edin Terzic is the right man for the job. The former Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich player believes that those in charge must instead focus on improving the overall quality of the BVB squad.
"He took charge of the team during a difficult phase and won the DFB-Pokal. If he had won the Bundesliga last season, they would have erected a statue of him alongside Kloppo," Effenberg told Kicker. "I still refuse to enter into any debate about Terzic, I would rather examine the squad and ask myself whether it is good enough to fight for the championship."
Borussia Dortmund currently find themselves in fourth place in the Bundesliga standings. They are also set to face PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 later this month. And the coming weeks will likely be crucial to Edin Terzic's future.
