Borussia Dortmund marked the start of their UEFA Champions League campaign with a win thanks to a late brace by Jamie Gittens.

It wasn't pretty, but Borussia Dortmund managed to kick-off the newly established league phase of the UEFA Champions League with a win away to Club Brugge. Jamie Gittens proved to be the difference maker once again for the Black and Yellows, as he came off the bench and scored a late brace to secure the three points.

Fellow substitute Serhou Guirassy was also on target, as he scored his first goal in BVB colours from the penalty spot late on after he was fouled inside the box.

The score-line somewhat flattered Borussia Dortmund, but Nuri Sahin will certainly take it after his side was outplayed in the first-half. Club Brugge created a number of chances, but BVB's bench strength made the difference in the end with Gittens once again leading the way.

Gittens' first goal came in the 76th minute as he whipped a shot at goal which took a deflection or two and found its way into the top corner. The second goal showed the young English winger's immense talent once again, as he dribbled his way into the box from the left amid pressure from three defenders and found the bottom corner.

Serhou Guirassy then coolly slotted home a penalty to add some gloss to the scoreline as Borussia Dortmund marked the start of their Champions League campaign with a win.

Borussia Dortmund had struggled for much of the opening 70 minutes, with Club Brugge proving to be a stern opposition at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Gregor Kobel had to be alert on a number of occasions, while BVB struggled to find their rhythm. But the away side's overall quality in attack managed to shine through in the end.

The result lifts Borussia Dortmund to fourth place in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League (for now). Next up for BVB is a trip to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
