Borussia Dortmund are still very much in this tie

We’ve seen what this Borussia Dortmund squad is capable of this season with the wins over Newcastle United, AC Milan, and more recently, Bayern Munich.

We also saw a glimpse on Wednesday of the very dangerous attacking football the Black and Yellows can play when the shackles are off. In the final stages, both Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Julian Brandt hit the opposing crossbar, and Sebastien Haller netted an important goal to keep Borussia Dortmund in the tie.

If Dortmund start the second leg like this at home in front of 80,000 fans at the Westfalenstadion, this game will well and truly be on. Haller’s goal was especially important in keeping BVB alive in the tie. Coming back from a one goal deficit is much less daunting than having to start the second leg behind by two. And the home support could certainly make the difference against an Atletico side that completely wilted towards the end on Wednesday.

With the right adjustments to both tactical choices as well as personnel, I still think BVB have a reasonable shot of advancing next week. Edin Terzic will have to prove he has what it takes to lead this team into the semifinals; I know the talent is there.
