Borussia Dortmund came from behind twice to defeat Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate and secure a place in the UEFA Champions League semifinals on an incredible evening at the Westfalenstadion.

The UEFA Champions League final at Wembley is in sight

The last time Borussia Dortmund played in the UEFA Champions League semifinals was back in 2013, where they went on to lose in the final against Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium. This has ‘redemption story’ written all over it, and there will be a lot of belief in the BVB squad heading into the PSG tie. BVB may only be fifth in the Bundesliga, but they’re in Europe’s top four, and that is a fantastic achievement.

Borussia Dortmund and PSG are far from strangers, having already met earlier this season during the group stage. Luis Enrique's side are certainly beatable, even if they have an array of world-class players, including Kylian Mbappe and former BVB star Ousmane Dembele.

But if Borussia Dortmund play to their strengths and do not get overawed by the occasion, they will have every chance of making the final. PSG defeated BVB 2-0 when the two sides met on matchday one of the group stage, but the Black and Yellows have grown a lot since then. And we could well see a more mature BVB side take to the pitch for the first leg at the Westfalenstadion.

If Borussia Dortmund can play the PSG tie like they did against Atletico, or against Bayern, then I think there is a realistic chance we’ll be watching Edin Terzic's side in the Champions League final come June. Maybe I’m just an optimist, but this is the best I’ve felt about Borussia Dortmund this season.
